3 reasons why you do NOT want to work at HH GREGG

Background: HH GREGG is a 100% commission based employer. This can be goo since there is no cap on how much you can make, however they company will always win and you willAlways loose as the employee

1) DRAW- first reason is the way the commission is set up, and this will cover 2 of the 3 reasons. Draw is what you go in if you do not hit quota, this is not a bad thing, but

There are bad things about it. lets say minimum wage at 40.00 hours puts you at 300.00. If you work 40 hours and do not make 300.00 in sales you owe the company however much you Missed the following week. ( this is fair, like a 0% interest loan) however, if you work over 40 hours which you will be scheduled to do, over time comes in to factor and not just time and a halffor the hours you get over 40 but now all 40+ hours are time in a half example: you work 42 hours as scheduled and you made 350.00 that week, your good right--NO!!!You have to make 472.50 to clear draw. even if you went .5 hours over 40 you still jump from 300 to 450 so if you make 325.00 one week and went 40.5 hours you still owe the company moneyThis is wrong!!!!!!

2) the 5% with hh gregg card deal, ok this is how it works you make money by profit, volume, and service plans. if there is any profit in a product you will get 12% of it + 1% of volume and up to 22% of the service plan ( that will be covered in more detail next). If you spend an hour with a customer and they want the cheap ad piece and then 5% you lose over half of the moneyYou would have made, EXAMPLE: customer buys 2 TVs and spends 1000.00, they are ad TVs and are at 0.00 profit, I know you customers don't believe there are products in the store with no profit but there are, Anyways you would make 10.00 right, WRONG!!! if a customer wants the 5% you type in ge_disc5 what this does is it knocks off 50.00 of the 1000.00 and for the sales person takes 12% from that 50.00 out of their pocketSo of that 10.00 you made HHGREGG now take 6.00 from you leaving you with 4.00 that hour less than minimum wage!!! You get penalized for selling there products!!!

3) if you been to hhgregg before you know they cut deals especially when you want a service plan, that is because it is the only way to make money at hh gregg, packing warranty..you have to sell 1500.00$ every week to hit 22% of the service plans but starts on a sliding scale at 8%, so pack pack pack, never pay full price for a service plan!!! Never!!!Here is the catch, it can be returned at any time, even months and years later. I have a customer who had his TV stolen and I got hit for him returning the service planWhen you get hit it will be at the rate you were at when you sold it, so normally 22%. EXAMPLE: I sold a 400.00 service plan on a computer, 5 months later I get hit for 88.00 because they returned itNow here is how they get you. because you would think ok it washed, no. now you are 400.00 in the hole and have to sell 1900.00 to make it to 22% not to mention you are 88.00 in the hole on draw, plusif you have any more returns your week just went from bad to ***. so you lose the money you made and now you lose the money you would have made if you could hit 22% at 1500.00 in psp sold, They hit you 2x.

4) ok I know I said 3 but here is one more, if you have a delivery and the delivery team damages it lets say a fridge and the scratch the side, not the end of the world, the delivery team has the Authority to say we'll knock 50.00 off, that 50.00 off comes out of the sales persons pocket at 12%, and there may have not been any profit from the start EXAMPLE fridge 500.00$ sold no profit, 50.00 at 12% you made -1.00 you actually lost money!!!

Monetary Loss: $5000.

Location: Dallas, Texas

i work at hhgregg now, really its and average of 3-5 percent of total sales, average of 15-20 percent of warranty sales. Also he failed to mention the manufactures pay you bonuses for up selling.

sum up to 100 dollars a tv.

i average 50k a year as a sales associate working 35 hours a week. (you get to call off early some days when you hit the goal and its slow.)

HHgregg is a miserable place to be a new hire. The store will have a top seller that isn't required to follow any rules.

The rest are just vultures that pick at his scraps. A brand new hire will be purposely confused as when he can talk to a customer by the vultures. Avoid. Avoid.

Avoid. The customers hate the high pressure sales tactics and are rude.

Co-workers are rude. Go deliver pizzas instead, anything is better.

if you can sell it does not matter, there is only about 3 different commission based pay technics. Im from the Fredericksburg area and all the appliance employees bank 2800 dollars bi weekly all commission. So lets be more specific when we speak on HHGregg as a whole.

HHGREGG,

In addition to agreeing with โ€œ1fe8c79โ€ had to say about working at HHGREGG, here are a couple of more reasons why not to work there. I started working there just before the holiday season.

everyone at the store assured me that Black Friday would be a huge sale day for the entire staff and the long hours would pay off.

However, when upper management made the decision to open the store two hours after all the other major retailers on Thursday night, and it killed us. So, with the store being dead, and everyone forced to work overtime, into draw we go.

Our management said there is nothing they can do about the extended hours.

Which means there either lying and the company owners are cruel, or there incompetent. Take your pick.

Now to be fair, some sales people do well at HHGREGG. But if you not, quit.

The single worst thing about working there was listing to everyone *** and complain about how much money they use to make.

Although I will never work there again, I have informed my wealthier friends to purchase there stock.

They may stick it to there employees, but when there expand there stock will make you some money. Whisky tango

yes you are correct they charge you back assuming that what you sold had profit. all you do is take the 5% out of the product or have your manager file a commission correction then its fixed.

bottom line if you cant build value in another product that is profitable then you will never make money regardless of 5% discounts.

I just started working for hhgregg 9 months ago and I have never sold electronics or appliances and im the #1 salesman in the region I will easily make 70k this year. I did question the company when I applied but im glad I stuck with it and I encourage anyone else to try their skills

I love hhgregg! I recently bought a tv and surround sound that would of set me back $6000 at bestbuy.

I walked out barely spending $3000.

Awesome company and I never buy ESP from anybody. Waste of money.

but the associates gets ripped on those types of deals

I used to work for them, they try to come off as low priced. They advertise "deals" in their weekly flyer, but they do not want the customers to buy the good deals.

They tell their sales staff to "move" the customers up to a more profitable item for the company. As a sales person you must pressure people into buying the "service plan" or "cheese" as they called it.

Cheese is a good way to put it as they are a bunch of rats. Circuit City was the same way with their service plans, accessories ($100.00 HDMI cables...LOL!) Customers are more educated and the way HHGregg does business will come back and *** them in ***

I currently work at HHGregg and am about to quit. They are a bunch of greedy liars that are only out to get your money.

Whatever you do when you go in there, do not buy warranty. It's a waste of your time and money.

Guest

Let me tell you, the customer base is toothless hillbillies and smelly people. And as for Hhgregg, they are liars all the way across the board.

A few things you forgot. Customers get shafted hard when they try to redeem the service plan taking weeks to get repairs and months to get redemptions.

Managers out right lie to employees and will shift comissions out of employees' numbers to employees they like better. Want to get promoted? Better be mesing around with the managers outside of work.

By the way most of the employees at hh gregg are male so let you imagination go where it wants to with that. I'm not exaggerating in the slightest.
