My wife and I bought a dishwasher from HHGregg. We decided to buy form them because they offered free delivery, disposals of the old machine and free installation.

The installation fouled-up the works for us. As most companies do, they sub their installation work out. In this case, the dishwasher wouldn't quite fit in the space the old one came out of, and all that was needed was a tiny bit of trimming of one filler panel. The installer said that hhgregg won't let them trim any wood. So much for an "installation"...free or not. Anybody who has installed dishwashers know that a machine has to fit properly in a proper installation; that's part of the job. I had to go back to work and left my wife in charge. I figured that we could use the dishwasher for now, and whenever we happened to have our plumber out he could take care of this.

However, as we real;ized after the plumber had left, he dishwasher sticks out enough to block a silverware drawer in an adjacent panel (located at 90 degrees from the dishwasher). This kitchen had been redone just a few years ago, and the old dishwasher was kept in place because it was nearly new. All storage units in the kitchen worked fine until hhgregg sent this bunch out to install this new machine. Their definition of an installation is a bit different than mine; an installation includes making sure everything fits well and looks like it was built in in the first place.

I talked with customer service and a lady told me the contractors are only allowed to do a certain amount of trimming. "Certain amount"? They said they weren't allowed to do ANY trimming. I then talked with her supervisor, who said he'd refund the installation amount, but we were supposed to get a rebate for the full amount anyway! He offered to have the machine reinstalled if I'd have the machine pulled and the panel trimmed by my regular plumber, but what's the sense in that? The trimming will take longer than pulling and then hooking the dishwasher up again, PLUS we'd have to wait for these people to show up again.

Their price for the machine was good, but we wouldn't have bought it from them except that they offered this free installation. Another well-know retailer wanted $300 for delivery/installation/disposal of the old dishwasher, and that caused us to decide to deal with hhgregg. While we appreciate the free delivery and pickup, they certainly misrepresented themselves in calling this a free "installation." Now I'll have to have my regular plumber out to correct this. So much for "free."

My wife called hhgreg to complain about this after the plumber had left and we realized the problem with the unusable drawer, and they had the plumber call us. He said he'd come right back and fix it, but we saw nothing of him afterward. Even if he shows up as soon as I post this, I won't withdraw this posting. We shouldn't have had to call about this in the first place.

I did years of plumbing/HVAC with a company which insisted upon doing the job properly. If I had done a lousy job like this when I was plumber, I'd have caught *** from the boss! Therefore, although the plumber hhgregg sent out told us that we can have his company come out on their own and repair the situation (and bill is, of course!), I'd rather not spend money with such a company which would do butcher work like this and then try to justify it!

If you choose to deal with hhgregg, just beware of the free installation hype; plan for the possibility that you'll have to have a follow-up call made by your own contractor.

No contractor for any box company or appliance sales store is allowed to trim cabinets or countertops for an installation.the way our contract reads is we are not allowed to alter the structure in your house to make an appliance fit or remove an item if you were to claim I screwed up your cabinets I would be responsible for the damage.also trimming cabinets is not Plumbing. These contractors get roughly 100 dollars to install dishwashers.

How much would you say your cabinets are worth. And how much time would you say a company should spend in your home for $100.most reputable plumbing companies charge around $100 an hour.

Sounds like to me you got what you paid for. Oh that's right it was free.

I would have to agree with others. I do installs for another large box retailer, and trimming or cutting wood we do, but we charge for it as it's not part of the 'normal' install.

Just for liability purposes, we need to charge because of insurance costs as well and time/labor costs.

Next time, measure the opening and make sure you get the correct unit. They are all slightly different and just a small amount of trimming is needed at times.

yeah, trimming is not part of a plummer job, and usually isnt covered under liability with their insurance. I dont like hhgregg but I'd have to side with them on this one.

You were probably just a go fer. I have been a plumber for 13 years and first of all I never let anyone else do plumbing in my home or anyone in my families home. And if you new any better you would have measured before you purchased.

IF you did YEARS OF PLUMBING yourself, why did you not fix it yourself, Lazzy ***???

if u did plumbing before u should of done it yourself and saved ur self a headache... think of this what if the installers messed up ur trim when they were cutting, common sense will tell u that hhgregg rather lose the "install" price then spend more in trying to replace your trim.
